Aspiring pilots get a boost of over $15,000 plus mentoring, industry contacts and other training benefits

From 8 June, applications open for two new flying scholarships, organised by ThinkAviation - The Aircraft Owners & Pilots’ Association of New Zealand Charitable Trust. “The Trust has been established to inspire and enable the next generations in aviation,” says Mandy Deans, Trust Chairman. “These two new Scholarships are just part of our range of programmes that provide pathways into all sectors of aviation, advance education and promote the enduring value of general aviation to New Zealand communities.”

The first scholarship includes $5,000 of co-funded fixed wing flying training, thanks to the support of PacAvia International Ltd.

Company Director Matt Vaughan is a recreational pilot, and volunteer for the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association of NZ. “Not every pilot pathway leads to flying as your job. I’m pleased to support a scholarship where those who want to contribute to our recreational and general aviation communities are also eligible.”

The second is a $10,000 scholarship package for future helicopter pilots, made available through a partnership with the James PG Foundation. The Foundation was created in the memory of James Patterson-Gardner, an eighteen year old that died tragically in a helicopter crash in February 2015.

“One of the Foundation’s objectives is to encourage & provide opportunities in aviation for young adults to reach their full potential.” says Louisa Patterson, Foundation Chairman. “We’re delighted to be partnering with ThinkAviation to establish this Scholarship and look forward to supporting the recipient as they grow in this exciting industry.”

Both Scholarships include an invitation to join ThinkAviation’s mentoring programme, plus membership benefits from the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association of NZ.
